DIY Spring Cleaning Recipes
If you are one for reducing toxins in your home, you probably have thought about ditching the store-bought cleaning products and making your own. And why not? They work just as well, cost less, and keep your family healthy. With just a few basic supplies and your collection of Essential Oils, you can whip up almost any natural cleaner to use in any room of the house. Here are a few ideas to get you started on your spring cleaning routine.
Most household cleaners can be made with some very simple ingredients found in your local grocery store or online. They are rather inexpensive and can be used for many projects.
- Baking Soda
- Witch Hazel
- Distilled Water
- Castile Soap
- Hydrogen Peroxide
Additionally, empty glass spray bottles and jars are helpful for using and storing your products.
- Do not use plastic bottles for long term storage. The Essential Oils can degrade and leach chemicals from the plastic.
- Always store your cleaners in a cool, dark space out of direct sun. This will make them last longer.
- Do not use vinegar based cleaners on marble or wood.
- We recommend using distilled water instead of tap water to help eliminate mold from forming in the product over time.
- For water-based sprays to last longer than a week, ¼ of the recipe should contain high proof alcohol like Everclear.
