Mother’s Day DIY Candle Ideas

We’ve given you fun recipe ideas in the past for fall and winter candles, but what is a better gift for mom than a homemade “healthy” candle? There are two important things to note about using Essential Oils in candles though. The first is that it will take more oil to scent the candle than you think, so these recipes might sound heavy handed, but we need that much to create a scent throw. For this reason, you may also want to choose less expensive Essential Oils. Second, you will want to use a stronger scented oil blend. This will also help the natural extracts make a more fragrant candle.

Of course, you can always use your favorite REVIVE blend, but here are a few other ideas for you to try, based on some popular “not-so-healthy” store bought brands.

Base Recipe Ingredients:

4 oz Glass Container (a Mason Jar works well)
4 oz Soy Wax
Cotton Wicks
Double Boiler
Clothespin or Chopsticks to hold wick in place
2 tsp of your chosen Essential Oil Blend or pick one from below

Citrus & Sage (Smells like Yankee)

At the Cabana (Smells like B&BW)

Volcanic Rock (Smells like Anthro)

How to Make:

Using your double boiler, gently melt your soy wax. If you have purchased a brand that can also be microwaved, feel free to do that in a glass measuring cup. Place your cotton wick at the center of your container and use your clothespin or chopsticks to hold the wick up and in place. Carefully mix your Essential Oil blend into the melted wax and pour into the jar. Let it cool and  harden overnight.

Before gifting, trim the wick to about ½ inch long.
