Essential Oils for Focus

It’s late in the afternoon, your mind is wandering again, and you just need to finish up the task at hand. You may be asking yourself, “Why is it so hard to concentrate?” Don’t be so hard on yourself, it happens to the best of us. Factors like lack of sleep, stress, or environmental distractions may be causing you to get off track, but it’s helpful to know that many Essential Oils can counteract this.

Specific compounds in certain therapeutic oils (like 1,8 cineole and A-pinene) can aid in memory, concentration, and focus. Utilizing these natural plant extractions may help neurotransmitters in the brain. So what Essential Oils are best for alertness and mental stimulation, and what is the best way to use them? Here is a list of the top Essential Oils and blends for Focus.

Rosemary Essential Oil

This pungent herbal oil is traditionally known as the “oil of remembrance.” It is said that Greek scholars used to inhale its aroma while studying. Multiple studies have shown that Rosemary oil can enhance memory as well as mental alertness, and possibly help to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease.

How to use Essential Oils for Focus

When looking to achieve focus, we want to use the olfactory receptors to stimulate the part of the limbic system that can reduce stress and increase alertness. Essentially, you can just inhale one or a blend of the Essential Oils on this list to help with that. A couple deep breaths straight from the bottle is enough to make a difference.

For longer lasting effects, we really love to diffuse our oils! Just 3-5 drops in your REVIVE diffuser is all it takes to get you on your way to Focus Land. Diffusing in your office or at the homework desk can be super helpful for getting you in the zone.
Another great option is to apply your Essential Oils topically with a carrier oil. This is a wonderful idea for personal use and very handy when on-the-go. Simply add a drop or two of your desired Essential Oils or blend to Fractionated Coconut Oil or Golden Jojoba Oil and rub onto pulse points as needed.
