But, did you know that you can easily make your own with all natural skin loving ingredients that costs less in the long run? Achieving that perfect summer glow is simple and only takes a few items that you probably already have in your arsenal of oils. This do it yourself recipe is a great option for getting and maintaining the perfect tan this season.
*Please keep in mind this is not a sunscreen! It is meant to be a skin moisturizer that helps you achieve a golden tan. Experts recommend use of a 30 SPF sunscreen or more when exposed to the sun.
What You’ll Need:
4 oz Glass Bottle with Pump
3 T Olive Oil
12 drops Lavender Essential Oil
Optional: 1 tsp Bronze Mica Powder
Why These Ingredients:
Fractionated Coconut Oil is estimated to be about 4 to 7 SPF. We love it because it is very lightweight and soothes dry skin.
Olive Oil has traditionally been used in Mediterranean countries for sunbathing to achieve a dark tan. It is estimated to be about 7-8 SPF.
Pomegranate Seed Oil does not have an official SPF approved rating, but it acts as a natural antioxidant-rich moisturizer that protects against UV damage and repairs skin.
Carrot Seed Essential Oil is rumored to have a high SPF, but the research has been skewed. We are choosing this oil for its skin benefits that include providing intense moisture to the skin and fighting signs of aging.
Lavender Essential Oil is the ideal oil for skin because it soothes inflammation and has antioxidant properties.
How to Make it:
Put the Essential Oils into the bottle first, then add in the fractionated coconut oil. Give a good swirl to mix, then add in the olive oil and pomegranate seed oil. If you are using the mica powder (for a temporary glow), add that in next. Close the bottle and roll it between your hands to ensure all of the ingredients are mixed thoroughly.
How to Use it:
Before laying out in the sun, apply a generous amount to your skin, massaging it evenly.
