DIY Pumpkin Preserver Spray
Arguably, one of the best parts of Halloween is carving pumpkins as a family. But one of the saddest things is when those adorable jack-o-lanterns rot away or get eaten by wildlife. Wouldn’t it be great if you could make those creative pumpkin decorations last longer? This easy and all natural Essential Oil preserver recipe will be a helpful tool this season in getting more time out of those treasured memories.
What you Need:
Castor Oil is used in this recipe for its ability to coat the pumpkin and add a touch of shine. We like this particular carrier oil for this DIY because it is antibacterial and antimicrobial, helping to preserve the pumpkin.
High Proof Alcohol is used to help mix the Essential Oils and water together, but it also keeps the mixture from going bad too soon.
Tea Tree Essential Oil slows down the growth of mildew or mold.
Peppermint Essential Oil repels bugs and animals.
Lemongrass Essential Oil prevents the pumpkin from rotting.
How to Make:
Into the bottle, mix together the alcohol and the Essential Oils. Add in the Castor Oil and swirl to mix. Fill the rest of the way with water and cap the bottle.
How to Use:
Shake gently and spray generously onto the outside of the pumpkin, focusing on the area where it is carved. If it rains on the pumpkin, remember to spray it again.
For safety purposes, only use a battery operated candle due to flammability.
